 CITY OF CRETE  NEBRASKA

Crete is somewhat of an anomaly in that we support industry and a private college.  Doane College was established in 1871 and was the first liberal arts and science college in Nebraska.  The college is ranked #1 in Nebraska and 59th in nation by FORBES.com.
Four major manufacturers call Crete home.  Bunge Milling is the leading corn dry miller in the world with operations in North and South America.  Douglas Manufacturing is a family business that produces election equipment and media containers.  Farmland Foods, located just outside city limits, employs approximately 2,050 people.  A member of the Smithfield family of companies is a large scale pork processing plant.  Nestle/Purina produces a wide variety of pet foods with a commitment to make pets lives better.
In addition to a liberal arts college and four major manufacturers, Crete is only a 10-minute drive from an 800+ acre tallgrass habitat preserve - Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center.  It is a hub for tallgrass prairie research and visited often by nationally-known poets, artists, photographers and psychologists.  It also is an excellent community resource for education programs and family fun.  For more information: www.springcreekprairie.org
